One night is never enough! Treat yourself to a long weekend away at one of the world’s most luxurious lodges. Situated on the magnificently stark Palliser Bay, Wharekahau lodge is quite simply in a league of its own. Stay any Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights between October1st and November 12th and be eligible for our special long weekend package.

Start each day with a cooked country breakfast in the conservatory and enjoy a selection of fresh house-baked breads and seasonal fruit from the orchard.

You can choose to explore the rugged Palliser Bay coastline or visit the five thousand acre working sheep station. Take a visit to the local Martinborough region and sample wines from the various vineyards. If you're feeling energetic take one of the bikes and have a ride around the estate. Or if you simply choose to have some relaxed time, then snuggle up with a good book in one of the many cosy lounges in the main lodge.

Relax and unwind in the evening and enjoy a fireside glass of local wine, followed by a four-course gourmet dinner that will overwhelm your senses.

Please advise the office if you wish to have a late departure on Monday, we do understand your reluctance to leave!

New Zealand’s Premier Wine & Food Festival

Diary the date for a memorable weekend away. The charming village of Martinborough will host what is regarded as New Zealand’s premier food & wine festival. Wharekauhau lodge, together with our partner vineyard Te Kairanga will join in the weekend's activities, hosted by lodge and vineyard owner Bill & Carol Foley.

Begin your day with a stroll around the estate taking in the spectacular views across Palliser Bay. A cooked country breakfast awaits you in the conservatory, along with a selection of fresh house-baked breads and seasonal varieties of fruit and preserves grown in the estate orchard.

Spend the day exploring the rugged Palliser Bay coastline or visit the five thousand acre working sheep station. Sample wines from local vineyards and arouse your senses savoring organically grown vegetables and meat from the artisan market. If you're feeling energetic take one of our bikes and explore the entire estate, the views are breath-taking.

If its peace and tranquility you're after, then find a cosy nook in any one of the lodge's three lounges (the fireside den, the Palliser lounge or the opulent drawing room) each with its own fireplace and bar service. Take your pick from a selection of books and board games from the lodge library.

Each evening you'll be treated to a selection of main courses carefully planned and prepared by the lodge chef and served with accompanying local wines. A gastronomic experience awaits you.

Should you wish a late departure on Monday, please request this when you make the reservation. And if you feel inclined to stay an additional night, ask about our 'Monday after Toast' special accommodation rate.

Weekend package NZD$ 3,950 inclusive of GST, however if you have purchased a case of wine online at the Wharekauhau Wine & Food Exchange this price will be reduced to $3,450.


Stay one night at The Lodge and get the next night on us. Each evening consist of a four course gourmet dinner (includes pre-dinner drinks & canapés) and a country style breakfast each morning. The winter rate is $1,495 per night per couple (GST inclusive), therefore you end up paying $747.50 per night.


If you would like to visit for lunch, try our new Sunday Roast Lunch. Three courses for two people, complimented by a bottle of Te Kairanga. After lunch enjoy a tea or coffee by the open fire and admire the view over Palliser Bay. $200 per couple (inclusive of wine and GST). Reservations are essential.
